Chewing tobacco usage among high school students

BACKGROUND: Chewing tobacco is a smokeless tobacco product that contains the substance nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive substance and is one of the most commonly used addictive substances in the general population. Secondary school students are a group of young people who may be affected by this tobacco product. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to identify and map patterns of chewing tobacco use among secondary school students, i.e. whether secondary school students have experience with chewing tobacco and, if so, to what extent they use it. METHODS: Data were collected using a quantitative questionnaire survey designed using the online survey tool Google forms. The questionnaire was featured on the social media platforms Instagram and Facebook. The data collected was further detailed in MS Excel. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: A total of 304 respondents participated in the study, of which three respondents were excluded because they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Thus, the total number of respondents included in the study was 301, of which 231 (77%) were female and 70 (23%) were male. Of the total, 128 (42.5%) respondents reported experience with chewing tobacco. Patterns of chewing tobacco and nicotine pouches usage among athletes: an online survey

BACKGROUND: Nicotine is one of the most commonly used addictive substances amongst the general population. Nonetheless, there is not much information on the use of chewing tobacco or nicotine pouches, even more so when it comes to studies concerning athletes. AIMS: The goal of this work was to map out the patterns of using chewing tobacco and nicotine pouches amongst athletes, specifically American football players and ice hockey players. METHODS: Quantitative questionnaire research was carried out with the help of the online tool Survio. The questionnaire was distributed through members of selected sports teams, American football and ice hockey, coaches, or team emails. RESULTS: 219 respondents took part in the study, of them, 114 were American football players and 105 were ice hockey players. Out of the 219 respondents, 65 of the 114 American football players (57%) and 53 of the ice hockey players (53%) have used chewing tobacco. While 49 American football players and 43 ice hockey players have used nicotine pouches. On average, respondents encountered chewing tobacco at the age of 19, and nicotine bags at the age of 21. Marketing communication of nicotine products in Czech environment

C1 - Internal use Abstract The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive insight of the impact of nicotine products on the Czech market. The theoretical part characterizes tobacco, nicotine and their effects on the human body, the history of tobacco use and its development. It presents a basic overview of current knowledge about nicotine addiction, motivation to use it and briefly introduces the basic preventive measures and state legislation concerning the operation of tobacco and nicotine companies on our market. Furthermore, specific examples of tobacco products from history and examples of anti-smoking campaigns from the Czech Republic and around the world are introduced. The last chapter of the theoretical part describes the influence of this communication on children and adolescents. The practical part is focused on the current advertising communication of selected brands and specifies nicotine products in more detail. This part of the work aims to map the current communication of HTP brands IQOS, gloand and e-cigarettes in the Czech Republic.
